We the students of IGNOU MMH college view the issue of attacks with extreme concern and dismay the recent racist attacks on the Indian students in Australia. We request the Indian Govt to intervene with the Oz Govt for the security aspects considering the folloing issues.
a) According to officials, Indian students represent about 18% of foreign students and worth $1.6 billion to the economy every year.
b) Tougher sentences would apply to crimes deemed to be based on victims' race, religion, gender or sexual orientation.
c) Recent incidents, though, will not inspire confidence among current or prospective Indian students considering Australia as a destination.
d) Racist attacks on students only tend to build a world of lawlessness which negates the constructive and peaceful world.
e) Certain agents who do campus placements for Indian students in foreign universities are not doing it in the proper way and they have take care of the students security in liason with the Oz govt.
